Laboratory
Diagnosis in psychiatry /
M.T.Abou-Saleh ABSTRACT : The value of utilising laboratory techniques in the diagnosis of psychiatric disorders has been discussed. Since the causation of psychiatric disorders is still unknown; exploration into biochemistry is being saught. Neuroendocrine tests as laboratory diagnostic tools provide usefull paradigms for the study of the pathophysiology of psychiatric disorders. The Dexamethasone suppression test may aid diagnosis and prognosis of biological depression.

Medico-Legal Aspects
of Violence with Epilepsy
/
A.A.Osman ABSTRACT : Aggression or/and violence are extremely rare during epileptic seizures, though an artifactual impression of them be common has been a longstanding one. Most of the studies which gave support to a positive relationship between epilepsy and violence had been criticized for many drawbacks. Nevertheless, evidence is accumulating that violence does occur, but rarely, solely due to epileptic seizures. The serious medico-legal implications of such a link demands reliable and valid criteria to help diagnose those rare epileptic patients who commit violence solely due to their epilepsy.

Panic Disorder and
hypochondriasis / T., F. E.
Ahmad, A., Y. Takriti
ABSTRACT :
One hundred panic disorder patients were compared with a similar
number of normal controls on the Arabic version of hypochondriacal scale and
the panic symptoms questionnaire to elucidate the difference between panic
patients and normal population in rating the severity of symptoms of panic
and hypochondriasis. The correlation between panic symptoms and
hypochondriasis in each group was explored. Results showed that panic disorder
(PD) patients in both groups scored higher on hypochondriasis. It also showed
that the ideational component is relevant to both panic and hypochondriasis.
The nature and consistency of both diagnostic categories were discussed. §
The Course of
Tardive Dyskinesia in patients on long -Term Neuroleptics. / Nizam Abu-Hijleh
ABSTRACT :
The results of a study
on the course of tardive
dyskinesia are presented. Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale was used for 50
chronic psychiatric out-patients. Originally the study included 68 patients
but 18 dropped out over the four year period. At each examination about 40%
of the patients showed signs of TD; 25% of these were best described as
having fluctuating
TD status. Of the patients who were consistently TD positive 80% showed no
overall significant change in summed AIMS scores, 14% improved and 6% became
worse.

The Role of Recreational
Activities in the Management of Psychiatric Disorders in the Arab -Islamic
History / M. AI-Haj Kasim Mahmoud
ABSTRACT
: Some of the most utilized recreational
activities: First: Travel and vacations. As Razes Stated: "If the illness
becomes chronic, transfer the patient to a different country where the
prevalent mood is to the opposite of that of the patient since many
depressives got cured by travel". Some of the recreational activities
which were innovated is to arrange visits by individuals who can entertain
the patients and give them pleasure. Second: utilisation of physiotherapy and
nutrition, like walking, bathing and good nutrition. Third: using music by
playing different tunes in different periods of the day
and night. |
