§         Personal Intelligence : The Meeting Point of Inward and Outward / Fouad A-L.H. Abou-Hatab

ABSTRACT : A model for personal intelligence (PI) derived from Abou-Hatab’s general model of multiple intelligence’s is proposed. Abou-Hatab’s model was first suggested in 1973 and modified several times afterwards. The definition of (PI) in the model is based on the goodness of fit between subjective self-report about internal world and relevant objective observable criterion. The pre-control variable of the general model chosen for (PI) is personal thinking.

The control variables are classes of personal information, spontaneous mode of information presentation, amount of information as measured by information demand. The execution variables are : verbal expression of the response, selection of response among alternatives, and intensity of response, as measured by rating-scale system. The post-execution-judgment variables are the degree of congruity between self-rating of original thinking (as measured by Gordon’s Personal Profile) and the objective criterion of the same trait (originality as measured by Torrance’s Test of Creative Thinking). The study was carried out on 150 male and female Egyptian university students and a classificatory system of (PI) levels and processes was arrived at.

§         Industrial / Organizational Psychology : in the Arab World / Farag A. Taha

ABSTRACT : Human being is the only organism that enjoy work and production which could be some of his instincts. From this point of view, industrial organizational psychology draws its importance as a main field of psychology, devoted to work and production. In this paper I try to overview Arab’s history of this important branch of psychology along with some of its issues.

§         Musical Field Dependence – Independence / Amal A.M. Sadek

ABSTRACT : This research is planned so as to investigate the nature of musical closure and its relation to embedded figures of visual nature. The major hypothesis to be tested is that : field dependence – independence (flexibility of closure) cuts across the content whether visual or musical regardless of the level of difficulty. Test of visual and auditory nature together with other musical ability tests were applied to subjects in different levels of education with different age range and level of music sofistification. Statistical analysis was carried out and results confirmed :

a)       Memory is the dominating ability for all aspects of musical ability including abilities of spatio-temporal nature as flexibility of closure.

b)       Easy musical tasks may share common variance with visual tasks of any level of difficulty as far as dependence – independence is concerned and more difficult related musical tasks may be more context specific and show types do musical field dependence – independence separate from visual context.

§         Cognitive Profile of Mentally Retarded Persons as a Function of the Etiology of Retardation/ Josette Abdalla

ABSTRACT : This study investigates the cognitive profile of mentally retarded persons as a function of etiology of retardation. The sample includes 36 mildly retarded persons ranging from 8-17 years ; 18 females and 18 males. 10 are retarded as a result of PKU, 10 postnatal meningitis, 8 prenatal medication, and 8 Fragile X syndrome. The tool used to identify the cognitive profile is the Wechsler scales. A MANOVA using all 10 WISC subtests as dependent variables and diagnosis and SES as independent variables was performed, followed by several ANOVAs. The hypothesis that the four identified etiologies of mental retardation result in varying cognitive profiles in this sample of Egyptian children is supported, as well as the additional hypothesis that there is a difference in gender among these groups. Some patterns among the diagnostic groups that were suggested by this research were also found.

-          Douleurs dorsales.

-          Distraction, rêverie, manque de concentration et indiscipline.

-          Angoisse, tristesse et crise de dépression.

-          Troubles caractériels : agressivité, jalousie, colères fréquentes.

§         The Use of Computerized Versus Standard Short-Term Memory Tests : The Possible Effects of Computer Anxiety and Experience / Reda Abouserie and Neil Selwyn

ABSTRACT : The use of computers in psychological measurement has steadily increased over the last twenty years as computers have become more widely available. However, although computerized testing has many inherent advantages, the influence of a subject’s previous experience of using computers and the anxiety over using a computer are both factors which have to be considered before computer-based psychological tests can be considered a valid alternative method of administration. This paper therefore reports on two experiments involving computerized and standard versions of a digit-span and word recognition short-term memory tests with an undergraduate sample (n=57). The results suggest that computer anxiety and experience do not have a significant effect on subjects test performance. However, subjects displayed significantly higher scores on the computerized word-recognition task than the standard version. Unlike previous experiments in this area the results are applicable to non-psychiatric populations.

§         The Chance for Peace : An Analytical Perspective on the Arabic and Israelis Minds / Dr.Jawad Fatayer

ABSTRACT : This paper stresses upon the correlation between mind and action. It’s been argued that our actions are mere reflections of our ideas and feelings i.e. our minds. The paper presents the issue in two analytical levels. A microanalysis represented by the mental constructs of the Israelis Paramount Mind on the one hand. A micro analysis represented by the attitude ans actions of Israel’s P. minister Mr. Natanyaho, presented as a finite mind. The author provides a detailed analysis of the Israelis and the Arab minds. The analysis concludes that neither the Israeli’s mind nor their actions seem to correspond positively with that of the Arabic counterpart. This, chances for peace are as little as null.
